About Caris

Caris Jackson is a mixed media collage artist living in Shropshire.

My current body of work reimagines vintage prints using collaged images sourced from magazines from the fifties to seventies. I am inspired by the kitsch and colourful nostalgia of mid-century advertising, classic stage and screen glamour, fairground signage and iconography.

At the age of four, following a visit to an art college degree show in my home town of Wolverhampton I decided that I wanted to be an artist.  I returned to that art college 14 years later to study Foundation Art and Design, followed by a degree in Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores University.

I have always worked figuratively, but often in a stylised surreal manner creating hybrid imagined beings, flamboyant personas and charismatic oddities of a playful nature.

I love the serendipity of collage; how a fragment of paper removed from its original context and can transform into something entirely new. I usually only have a loose idea of what I wish to create when I start, but the working process of layering collected resources leads to the gradual emergence of a new character and narrative.
